Door to the school

WHAT IS THE SCHOOL LIKE?

"An ancient gateway with a sign that reads "Carmen de las Cuevas, School of Spanish for foreigners; Flamenco School". It had been difficult to find at the top of a steep slope…

It is a maze of caves, staircases, terraces and rooms. In the caves, which are decorated with portraits of famous flamenco artists and traditional ceramic plates, there are flamenco classes for everyone:

Spaniards and foreigners; gypsies and payos (non gypsies); beginners and professional local artists, some of whom are of top quality, get together here to rehearse.

From the outside patio you reach the library and  "el salón", a room for everyone to share during leisure time, there you also find the room with the computers and on the next level the video room. As I make my way through the maze of terraces and stairs I come across partial views of the Alhambra and the Albayzín (old quarter). The classrooms for language and culture classes are located at the top of the school, from where the view is breathtaking.

There are people all over the place and everybody is doing something different, reading the paper, studying, watching a movie or listening to music. They all have a key that gives them access to any area of the school from 8 am to 11 pm, 7 days a week!"

SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE SCHOOL

Carmen de las Cuevas is a small school with more than 20 years experience teaching Spanish. Our team of teachers is enthousiastic and academically qualified, taking the educational objectives seriously and combining them with a relaxed and personal atmosphere. To provide the best possible personal tuition, all classes are taught in small groups (maximum 8) with a restricted number of total students. In addition to the language courses available at all levels, we offer literature, history of flamenco courses, preparatory courses for the official exam of the Cervantes Institute (DELE), business Spanish and methodology courses for Spanish teachers.

Apart from stressing grammatical structures and use of language, we understand that the language must be a vehicle of communication, civilization and a way of getting closer to the reality of Spain. This is the reason why our culture and contemporary Spain and literature and flamenco history courses as well as our cultural programme are of particular interest.
