This class is ideal for those interested in discovering the mystery of the “compás”  or rhythm of Flamenco. The “compás” refers most frequently to the clapping accompaniment so essential to create the hypnotic pulse of flamenco. The goal of this class is to train students to distinguish between the diverse rhythms of the music and to teach them the techniques of the compás in all of its different forms.

This class is ideal if you want to learn the nuances of flamenco singing firsthand from an authentic and professional flamenco singer. The class also encompasses how the singing interacts with the guitar and dancing. Although it is perhaps not immediately recognized and appreciated, the heart and soul of flamenco is, in fact, the singing (el cante). The class will focus both on listening to flamenco singing, and doing some singing yourself in order to gain a better, all-round understanding. The teacher will introduce you to various styles (palos) and highlight the differences within these (for example Tangos de Granada, Tangos de Extremadura or Tangos de Cadiz).

During your three months or more, you’ll study Spanish within the six levels offered. You’ll have classes in the mornings from Monday through Friday for three hours and in addition, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in a half-hour elective turorial before each class.
